Our history begins with John Entrekin who was born about 1740 at the Marsh Creek Settlement, Adams County, Pennsylvania. He married Elizabeth Milwee in 1758. After her death he married her sister, Sarah in 1773. Sarah and John left Pennsylvania between 1766 and 1768 traveling on what was known as the "Great Philadelphia Wagon Road". This road took them from Williamsport, forded the Potomac River and into the Carolinas. They probally then followed and old Indian Trail known as the "Long Grey Trail" or the "Wilderness Trail" to the James River. From there they would have ferried across to Roanoke, Virginia and into the Piedmont Region of North Carolina. It is believed they spent some time near Hillsboro, North Carolina. In 1768 or 1769 they moved to Craven County, South Carolina. Then on to the Congaree River in Berkely County. Shortly afterwards, they arrived in Laurens County. John received a Colonial Grant from Governor Greeville in 1771 of 25 acres in Berkley County. His estate was administered in the 1820's. Evidently he was a farmer who grew Tobacco, among other crops. During this time period, the spelling of the name seems to be mostly Entrican.
